DACs rely on reconstruction filters (low-pass filters) to smooth the output, creating a continuous analogue waveform from discrete digital samples. However, imperfections in the filtering or timing mismatches can cause previous samples to \"leak\" into subsequent samples, creating intersymbol interference. The effects are a form of distortion that reduces the accuracy of the analogue signal relative to the original digital data. To counter this and maintain a very high precision and exceptional audio fidelity, we use what appear to be ladders, but are, in fact, high-performance arrays of equal valued elements.
